Halloween Costume: Coraline

This year for Halloween, I had my heart set on going as Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I was having a hard time wrangling up a worthy costume. Then it came to me to go as Coraline! This year I am having a tiny Halloween Party at my house, and my biggest goal is to have trick or treaters! This is the first place I've ever lived where I could have trick or treaters, but I've always had to work Halloween night. I'm super excited and I wanted to dress up as something maybe some of the kids would recognize.
I didn't realize until researching this that the movie was based on a book. I can't wait to get my hands on it and creep myself out.

I can't decide which outfit I like better?! So tomorrow I am going thrifting to see what I can find. I dyed my hair blue again (but not dark blue yet, I was trying to use up my dye).

If you've never seen the movie, here is the trailer:

What are you going as for Halloween? Are you going to a party or just dressing up for fun?

PS The husband and I have a date tomorrow to go to the corn maize! I'm super stoked!

On Repeat: Amanda Shires

This is a new series I've decided to start. I am really bad about listening to the same cd on repeat for long periods of time. I thought since music is a huge part of my everyday life, that I would share that on here. Starting this off right is a friend of mine and a member of my husband's band Thrift Store Cowboys, Amanda Shires. This is her third solo cd and she's got rave reviews. She is an amazing fiddle player, songwriter, singer, and jump roper. I have a bad habit of listening to the same 4 songs over and over, this week I've ventured out of my comfort zone and fell in love with Shake the Walls and Bees in the Shed. Here are the first 3 songs on the album that have awesome videos:

You can visit Amanda over on Facebook or her website. You can also see her in the movie Country Strong as Gwyneth Paltrow's fiddle player.

Does anyone else listen to the same cd forever, or is that just me?

Taco Tuesday: Always be yourself. Unless you can be David Bowie. Always be David Bowie.

I guess you could say I'm in a strange mood today. Maybe I haven't had enough coffee (definitely not enough), or maybe I keep thinking this week is further along than it is. But whatever the case is, I am in a weird mood (but weird in a good way).

coffee drinking, pumpkin patching, halloween costumes, country drives, hair dying, thrift store shopping, art making, doing laundry, and surviving the week....what are up to?

Things I Find At Hot Topic

One day I was on my way to Aerie and I happened to look over at just the right time to catch a glimpse of this Sailor Moon t-shirt on display at Hot Topic. If you don't know I love Sailor Moon and have always loved Sailor Moon. They just started re-releasing everything here in the States after a big licensing issue.

I normally don't shop at Hot Topic but every once in a while I will stop in to get a gift for someone, like t-shirts or vinyl (yeah they have records.) I've been in a few times recently and  have found several things I can't live without, and they have several Paramore t-shirts (which is my secret addiction, so don't tell). I also bought a really cute dress and tons of other things....so I guess you could say Hot Topic is growing on me and it has nothing to do with the plethora of Hello Kitty stuff...nothing at all....

Here are a few things I purchased along with my Sailor Moon tee (which I promptly put a hole in trying to remove the tag)....

I have a cardigan addiction, seriously I have enough cardigans for all the puppies in the world (that's why I need so much closet space). I also have an addiction to skulls that I keep trying to get away from...thanks punk rock....

Obviously I am addicted to Paramore, and this sweatshirt it amazingly cute and comfy. I've gotten so many compliments on it already.

Here a few things I want from HT:

Baseball tee and Sailor Moon, steal my heart. This will be mine!

Fancy Harry Potter cardigan, thank you.

 Galaxy cat...GO!

Yes another cardigan. It has hearts and pink....yeah you can stop judging me.

Another cute Paramore tee. The last one I bought similar to this one has brought me lots of unwanted attention, and by that I mean people wanting to take my picture in it. So Paramore you owe me, I'll take that cute shirt with the ice cream cones on it...Thanks.

Is there a place you didn't think you would ever shop in, that you religiously look for stuff in now?
Do you shop at Hot Topic? What are a few of your favorite things?

Taco Tuesday: To Do's and Weekend Pics

Right now I am trying to remember my massive to do list, and not just my day job stuff. Sigh
It's getting to that time of the year where you get to see lots of my to do lists, because putting them on my blog helps me remember. I use like 3 day planners, a dry erase board, and my fancy phone and I still have issues. If you know of someone who wants to be a personal assistant who can live in a cupboard, enjoys homemade cupcakes and ice cream for dinner, can make a mean cup of coffee, and likes french and japanese music....let me know...

To Do:
1. Make diaper shower invites (including the design)
2. Find all my screenprinting supplies.
3. Work on my dolls. (I'm behind schedule!)
4. Start on my next painting.
5. Scan in other paintings.
6. Start on my Christmas list. (this is epic b/c I like to make stuff for everyone)
7. Work on fall embroidery patterns for guest post.
8. Clean up 'the office' (my fabric stash has exploded!)
9. Put away laundry (so I can find something to wear!)

I might as well stop there....

Here are a couple pictures from this weekend's road trip to visit my family.

Me and my niece Avery. She's drinking an iced hot chocolate, that's probably bad for kids...

A few vintage finds: Dooney bag, leather belt that says Charles, and Hawaii Tee.

Are you already thinking about Christmas? I always try and still end up last minute shopping...

That's What She Said Sunday

Britney makes me want to clean my house and shake my booty.

Eisley Show from my iPhone

This Friday my friend Calley and I went to see Eisley. I was super stoked because I haven't seem them play since the sxsw they were on the Warped Tour. All my attempts this past sxsw ended in failure. I am a huge fan of their new record and I'm glad I was finally able to buy it on vinyl. I also scored a couple Tees with Sherri's artwork. Sadly I didn't get to meet Sherri and get a pic, but she did send me a lovely message on Twitter.

I have to say Calley and I won for best dressed. :)

I loved Christie and Collin. Give me acoustic any day! I got their EP and a cute tee.

The Marksmen went on next and I was blown away! It wasn't what I was expecting and I loved it. I grabbed their cd and a tee for my husband (he couldn't get off work to come).

Eisley was wonderful and I loved the new songs they played that will be on the new EP. I was a little sad I didn't get to hear Marvelous Things, but it was awesome hearing Smarter and all the newer stuff live. I only captured a few photos with my phone, it was dark and I obviously couldn't get past the ring of fan boys in the front.

I had a great time and hopefully soon I'll post up a picture of the merchandise I bought. Until then I can't wait to get home, put The Valley on the record player and get my art on.

Swallow Fireflies

I have a busy weekend ahead of me:
tomorrow is the Eisley show! I'm stoked!
Saturday I'm headed to SA to visit the fam and do crazy stuff with Avery.
I'll try blogging from my phone, but I make no promises.

Maybe when I get back home I'll have time to take pictures of the paintings I've been working on and start on another one (that I'm super excited about because I love love the sketch)....

I'm off to drink wine, look at weather reports, try packing, eat ice cream and probably eat more ice cream.

Have a rad weekend!
